Check Up After Delivery for Mom - 6 Week Follow Up Visit

A woman's mind and body go through many changes throughout pregnancy and after delivery.  The mother has to recover from childbirth; the mother needs to learn to feel good about herself after delivery; and the father needs to learn how to take care of his recovering partner.

See your healthcare provider within 3-6 weeks after delivery

It is important to ensure all women who have experienced childbirth return to their prenatal care provider for a six week follow-up visit.

This visit will be used to:

  • Perform a breast and pelvic exam

  • Assess your overall health.  Some doctors will also require you to have blood-work completed to ensure you are not having issues with anemia or your thyroid.

  • Discuss family planning options

  • Screen for post partum depression. Having the "baby blues" is a very common experience and lasts up to 3-4 weeks, but post partum depression is a more serious condition that requires treatment. Your doctor can determine if you need help and show you how to get help.
